The Absolute Piano really exploit the virtual piano concept by adding specific and innovative possibilities. With its filters you can sculpt the piano timber and produce a large number a piano sounds from the same base. Everything is  specifically designed to manipulate and play piano sounds.

Absolute Piano : Erard Upright. This was my own piano when I was leaving in Paris. I spent a significant time to tune it and record it during the year 2007 just before I move to Florida USA.

About this Piano?

Polyphony : the Absolute piano can play 128 notes simultaneously!

New sound-bank, this piano was recorded using 4 microphones, 2 Oktava Ruban microphones and 2 large diaphragm microphones to get a very smooth and subtle sound with ART Pro Channel valve pream to add some valve distortion. I worked several month on the sounds, to remove the bad recording samples, re-sample digitally to have a perfect velocity switches. The piano sound is deeply compressed (lossless) to be small (312b only). The compression is not audible.

The reverb has been enhanced, it is now as good as any professional one. Also there are 2 vu-meters for left and right precise view instead of one for the mix of the two channels in V2. The interface is clearer, the license is displayed on the main surface.

Listen mp3 demos of this piano.

(note these demo were recorded with the Absolute Erardr and nothing else.)

Chopin : Sonata N°3 in B Mino mvt 4 played by Robert Finley. In this sample you can listen the real sound of the basic soundbank. No artifacts, no filters, to fx, only the pure sound of the sampled Erard.

Rachmaninoff: prelude Op.23 N°4 played by Robert Finley. This sample shows you how the sculpture filter can slightly change the basic timber of the soundbank to create a lot of interesting variations.

Chopin : Winter Etude Opt 25 N°11 played by Robert Finley. In this sample you can listen how the reverb can greatly enhance the piano sound. The reverb uses almost NO processing and is specially designed to avoid the bad ringing resonance most reverb have when they are applied on a piano sound.

Old King Dole. In this sample I use the sculpture filter, the echo and the compressor to create a children's music piano box. I also use the background sounds option to add some birds :)

Beethoven : Moonlight Sonata. In this sample I use the sculpture filter to make a dark piano and add a rain sound in the background. This Sonata is one of the most difficult piece of piano to play with a virtual piano. It uses low velocity samples and is very subtle. Usually piano that are faked (sample generated) can't pay this midifile correctly. Here you can listen the way the sound bank is well balanced, how it is possible to play dark and bright and pass from one to another without any steps.

The key features of the Absolute piano  :

  1. Optimization : even if the Absolute Piano is small - if you compare to its competitors - it is based on a very optimized high quality sound bank and it sounds fantastic. Yes, small can be better ... sometime. This piano was sampled on 4 velocity layers with up to 12 second length.

  2. Creativity : the Absolute Piano features a sound sculpture filter specifically designed for that pîano. It is in fact a 3 bands  powerful shelving filter tuned to 'sculpt' the piano timber. You can create warm or old piano, ragtime or classical sound easily.

  3. Effects : in every plug-in you have a set of effects, but, the Absolute Piano has specific ones, designed only for this piano. The reverberator is warm, very powerful and will not add any ringing resonance. The chorus will greatly emulate the piano bar style, and the peak boost will add an incredible punch in the piano attack, while compressing and limiting at the same time! Great for rock and pop styles...the multi-tap echo can be sync to the tempo.

  4. Background : the Absolute piano is a real simulator, and you can add pre-recorded hi-quality background sounds, from restaurant, or concert ambience to weird forest, thunder, sea, mountain wind, snow! Fun to play it is a must for adding some emotions while you play, try it, you'll re-discover your favorite pieces!

  5. Synthesis : with its very high quality filter, low pass, high pass, band pass, and notch, with a constant gain and saturation, resonance and self oscillation, and also the volume envelope, you have access to the real synthesizers endless possibilities. It is even possible to emulate the sound of ... a violin! Most competitors are just using a basic one pole filter to free some CPU power. With the Absolute Piano, you can really create new sounds!

  6. Stand alone, FULL VST compatible version in the same install.
